Ruby Pie (Custom Blend Contest Winner)
This tea was created by the winner of our Custom Blend Contest. In October of 2012, we held a contest to send in ideas for a custom blend. A panel of judges chose the 10 best ideas and we created a poll on our site. The concept for this tea won the most votes, so we worked with the winner, Sarah, to create her dream blend. This version has only been slightly modified from the batch of tea that she won. Ruby Pie is designed to taste similar to strawberry rhubarb pie. The pie crust notes are immediately noticeable followed by rhubarb and lingering fresh strawberry and vanilla notes. Hibiscus adds a hint of tartness to supplement the rhubarb notes but does not overwhelm the tea. Adding some sugar will intensify the strawberry and rhubarb notes while still maintaining the pie crust notes. For a short interview on the process of making this tea, please click HERE.

So Long, and Thanks for All the Licorice
One of our customers, Sasha, challenged us to create a unique licorice masala chai custom blend. We ended up loving her blend so much, that we decided to offer it on our website. The name of this tea is a reference to one of the owner's favorite authors, Douglas Adams. This soothing tea features licorice; however, the spice notes are also present and linger long after the sip and meld with the licorice notes. With each sip, the licorice and spice notes seem to become stronger yet they are not overly aggressive. While this tea is fantastic plain, this blend shines with a little rice milk and sugar. For a short interview with the brains behind this tea, click HERE.

Taiwanese Wild Mountain Black
Our Taiwanese Wild Mountain Black originates from indigenous wild tea plants grown between 2,500 feet and 5,000 feet in the surrounding mountains of Yuchi Township in Taiwan. The tea picking season for this tea is July through August and the supply is limited because the tea is wild. During this time, the tea master will wake up around 4 a.m. to travel the mountains with local tea pickers in search of wild tea. Similar to our Gui Fei Oolong and Mi Xian Black, the leaves of our Wild Mountain black are also bitten by leafhoppers. These bites cause the plant to initiate the healing process which produces sweet honey notes. The honey aroma is unbelievably strong and inviting. Notes of fresh baked pastries and honey linger. Some gentle raisin and caramel notes are also present in this smooth and refreshing tea. Temporarily out of stock! Check back in July/August after the next harvest.

Three Friends (Orange, Marshmallow, Chocolate)
One day we got a call from Marina, a local shop owner, asking us if we would be interested in selling packaged tea in their store, ShowCase Collective, in Bordentown, NJ. We were very excited to be a part of a shop that sells high quality products from local artists. We got to spend a good amount of time in the shop handing out samples of our tea and getting to know two of the owners, Marina and Roya, and got to hear about how creative the third owner, Cindy, is. The two owners were so amazing and inspiring that we wanted to create a blend for the shop that would speak about each of their personalities. Marina is energizing, fun, and has a wonderful spirit. For her we chose orange. Roya is warm, friendly, and family oriented so we chose chocolate for her and the Zhen Qu base tea. Cindy, the creative owner, gets marshmallow because it adds that extra creative element to the blend. This tea has strong orange notes followed by marshmallow notes and dark chocolate notes that linger. The chocolate is very dark and just misses being bitter. Three Friends really shines with a little sugar. The dark chocolate becomes milk chocolate, the orange is juicy, and the sweet marshmallow remains prominent.
